Abstract

Implication for health policy/practice/research/medical educationHypertension is considered as a major risk of cardiovascular diseases worldwide. It has been evidenced that oxidative stress is increased in patients with salt-sensitive hypertension, essential hypertension, malignant hypertension, renovascular hypertension, preeclampsia as well as cyclosporine-induced hypertension. Plants and animals have complex systems of multiple types of antioxidants, including glutathione, vitamins A, C, and E, and enzymes like superoxide dismutase, catalase, and several peroxidases. The diets rich in fruits and vegetables can reduce blood pressure in hypertensive and normotensive patients.
